i would like to track the new york stock exchange
as a whole like the DJI, s&P 500
but having trouble finding the correct symbol
which will allow me to download correct data to track the NYSE
if its up or down, the total volume for the day, open close low high
ect

having problems with these symbols,
have try .nya ^nya
neither of these works with the yahoo and google historical downloader
but if you go to the yahoo website it takes ^nya
if you go to the google website it takes .nya
and i even try nya
which works with strategy desk for ameitrade

i want to down load the historical record of the nyse exchange
and so far i can find a symbol to do this
